Friday Film Series: What's The Economy For, Anyway Report from the 21st Assembly District Candidates' Forum Sustainability Bike Ride - CA to DC

March 2, 2010
March 5, 7:30pm
Acterra, 3921 E. Bayshore, Palo Alto – Directions
Ecological economist Dave Batker gives us a humorous, edgy, factual, timely and highly-visual monologue about the American economy today, challenging the ways we measure economic success – especially the Gross Domestic Product – and offering an answer to the question: What’s the Economy For, Anyway?
Join us – and our co-sponsors Acterra and Transitions Palo Alto / Silicon Valley – for a good film and stimulating discussion afterwards. (Not to mention the terrific home-made desserts.) You can RSVP here.

A number of SVAN members attended the Feb. 24 Redwood City forum for 21st Assembly District candidates to succeed Ira Ruskin.
Jerry Schwarz wrote up his impressions of the event. You can read them here.

On April 22, 2010, the brother and sister team known as The Green Riders will embark on a journey across the country on electric bicycles.
They will travel from their childhood home in Palo Alto, California to meet and share stories with champions of sustainability. The final chapter of this journey will be in Washington DC, where they will deliver their petition, “The Declaration of Interdependence” to the White House. Signatures will be collected in ink along the route as well as electronically through their web site.
